Juergen Zimmermann heads regional product management for Hitachi Energy’s Battery Energy Storage Systems and Microgrid Solutions business in Asia Pacific and has been involved in the development and construction of utility scale battery energy storage systems as well as microgrids for over 35 years. From his early work in the off-grid sector to driving initiatives at a state and federal level for change in the energy sector, Juergen has been shaping innovative solutions that enable the energy transition to 100% renewables for large interconnected systems like the NEM or for large isolated systems like the Darwin Katherine power system. Juergen’s project experience includes the first large scale grid forming battery system at Dalrymple in South
Australia, as well as the Alinta Newman Battery in Western Australia and Woodside’s offshore Goodwyn battery energy storage system (BESS), all using Virtual Synchronous Machine technology.
